Hatchery Production
All of our trout are currently spawned on-site at Blue Stream's Cape Cod farm location. We spawn twice a year during natural spawning season using only our best broodstock. We do not use hormones or hormone injected foods to induce spawning. We simply care for our trout using the best top quality feeds, pristine water and ensure ideal living conditions.
Once spawning season is upon us, in the fall and again in the spring, we choose our best broodstock from selected species which are ready to provide top quality eggs. Eggs are hand stripped from each female and milt is extracted and used to fertilize the eggs. Once the eggs have been mixed with milt, they are placed into our hatch house in our artesian fed indoor hatching system, where they are cared for around the clock for up to two months until they begin to hatch.
Once the eggs have hatched and egg yolks are absorbed for nutrients, fish are feed trained in the hatch house until they are about three inches in size when they will be transported to their first outdoor raceway.

Fall Spawning 2019
From the first spawn on September 7, we've been watching our newest batch of eggs develop. Taking pictures of eggs through a microscope can be difficult but the results are amazing! The middle picture shows a developing trout egg, you can clearly see the eye spot and body beginning to grow. After 31 days -right on time- our first egg hatched, as seen in the photo on the right. The newly hatched alevin (baby trout) will feed off the yolk-sac until they are ready for the highest quality feed we will give them.
